It is quite sad when l observe the many times we let our opportunities to embrace very prolific and saving counsel to pass by.
Against prophet Micaiah’s counsel Ahab went to war and there he died. Jehoshaphat, possibly, by God’s favor escaped by a whisker. 1 Sam 22.
Felix was told of righteousness, self-control and the coming day of judgment, by Apostle Paul. Acts 24:25.
Felix was frightened. Instead of embracing the word, he merely said, “Go away for now.”
Are you not doing the same?
To the Jews of Antioch of Pisidia Apostle Paul said,”it was necessary that we first preach the word of God to you Jews. But since you have rejected it and judged yourselves unworthy of eternal life, we will offer it to the Gentiles.
For the Lord gave us this command when he said, ‘l have made you a light to the Gentiles, to bring salvation to the farthest corners of the earth.”Acts 13:46-47.
The Jews of Pisidian Antioch had heard the word brought to them according to God’s plan but rejected it.
Are you not rejecting an opportunity conferred directly to you from before the throne of grace?
An opportunity well packaged and specially tailored for you, yet now being passed on to someone else quite hungry and thirsting for it.
Paul told the officer in charge of prisoners on a voyage to Rome,”l believe there is trouble ahead if we go on-shipwreck, loss of cargo and danger to our lives as well.”Acts 27:10
Unfortunately, the officer decided to listen more to the ship’s captain and the owner than to Paul, probably just because Paul was a prisoner.
Do not judge the messenger sent to bring you, profitable counsel. Even dynamites come in small packages.
Eventually, all the cargo and the ship were lost. Only if they had taken heed of Paul’s counsel.
Paul had to say,” Men, you should have listened to me in the first place and not left Crete. You would have avoided all this damage and loss. Acts 27:21
Are you not shedding tears now as you experience painful financial losses resulting from your refusal to take the advice given you?
Right now someone is having an unplanned pregnancy, pregnancy out of wedlock or a crumbling marriage because you repulsed wise counsel once given.
Someone is locked up in career never wished/desired because he/she spurned away instructive advice given some years back.
Yet another person, took for foolishness, some helpful and protective counsel given for several times but is now writhing in agony from a chronic, lethal health condition.
Locked up in a marriage where s/he is being grilled is someone. It all came as a result of spurning a little bit of judicious counsel.
Let this be a wake-up call to you. As your opportunity of that wisdom packed counsel comes to you, embrace it and act upon it NOW. You never know whether there will be a “NEXT TIME” for you.
William Ward said that” Opportunity is often difficult to recognize; we usually expect it to beckon us with beepers and billboards.”
“If we do not take advantage of our opportunities, it is our own fault.” Thomas Watson.
