Everything shall pass!
Tangled in an endless loop of misfortunes, dejections, life-threatening circumstances – you name it, Newton’s third law of motion (for every action there is an opposite but equal reaction) suddenly comes into play. Unfortunately, for a troubled soul, the absorption of more tribulations triggers the egress of more and more hope. It is this gradual loss of hope which boosts the severity of incommodiousness. It is usually easier to lose hope than to gain hope, but is losing hope the real deal?
Someone may answer a very strong YES. That is because losing hope is more like a natural phenomenon which humans do not have power over, triggered by the culmination of several devastating experiences which the person in question is no longer able to endure. Such a situation can only be equated to an epic adventure of locating a hidden treasure with a cryptic map leading you into numerous traps and perils but the map is indicating no actual position where the chest is hidden, neither is there any indication of the number of trials to be passed; worst still the Herculean task begins to recur. Again, is it really worth it to give up?
My answer is a very strong NO. In real life, such situations of high hopelessness, peril, and ambiguity usually build a rock-solid foundation of success in the future. I can adapt Oprah Winfrey as an example, Oprah lived through a hellish reality after giving birth at 14. She managed to not only overcome this but also being repeatedly molested by her cousin, uncle, and a family friend. Despite her tragic past, she has worked hard to become a success and amass a net worth of $2.9 billion, yet, an exact type of tribulation is the one that is creating an excess of prostitutes and street urchins in almost every urban in Zimbabwe. You are fortunate if you are in such a situation (a situation of destiny seemingly shrouded in the mist of antiquity) and you manage to notice it, for now, is the time to mold your destiny. I have compiled a few lessons for you if you are such a person.
Things can, and will go wrong in life
This is a very basic lesson we learn from Murphy’s laws. There are certain things we cannot override just because it is surety of gaining from pain. Even Jesus encountered such circumstances during his ministry, evidence that no human is immune to the dynamics of life. Instead of focusing on why things went wrong, put more focus on overcoming the “happening”. The going wrong of life is preparatory of a substantial and fruitful aftermath. Of course, there is The Plan. Plan A-The way things are supposed to go. But in the history of the world, there hasn’t been a single thing that went the way it was supposed to go. Adam was supposed to live eternally in Paradise but things went wrong. Now, this entire world is operating on Plan B. Plan A is what you imagine life should be like but Plan B is what you have to do after things go wrong.
When things go wrong, don’t go with them
Emma Goldman mentioned that “there is no failure except in no longer trying”. Don’t lose heart so quickly by unwanted turns and twists in life. The chest of treasure is still there, and it is your destiny to find it. Your destiny might not be known to you, but someone knows it very clearly. That person said, “’For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you’” [Jere 29:11]. Well, he did say that his plans are meant to prosper you so no worries, you are destined for prosperity- why giving up that prosperity? Just get up and try again. No matter how much thicks and thins you are going through, never get washed away; there is always a happy ending to those who strive in the darkest paths. Engage Plan B.
How high are you, not how low are you
Always try by every means to think positively. Try to harbor gratitude by focusing on those who have less than you and desist from comparing yourself with those with more than you. Looking at yourself in the negative side usually destroys your confidence but if you put yourself in the positive builds a fighting spirit. Take time to realize the absolute worst thing that is happening around you and ask you why cannot you climb any further than you are now- making the worst a leverage.
Of course, faith in a difficult situation is always of paramount importance. You don’t have to see your destiny to be assured that it exists. Losing faith sounds one of the biggest sins; equal to rebelling against God because the belief that there are a creator and a universal supreme being is mostly based on faith rather than sight or encounter. That means it is a very good practice to have faith in yourself.
NB: the issue of faith is to be discussed in the sequel of this article to be entitled: DESTINATION UNKNOWN 2: a leap of faith.
Why are you giving up?
There is no substantial reason or excuse to giving up on yourself. In the end, what matters is what you are doing to yourself. Those who have a ‘why’ to continue in life always, can bear with any ‘how’. If the burden is too heavy for you, just be honest with yourself and seek assistance.
Are you afraid to continue because you have no source of income or you are not employed? You are not alone, I once read an article which stated that the world economic forum estimates that 40% of the planet’s young people, described as ‘ninis’ in Mexico, are not employed or enrolled in school. The Organization for economic cooperation estimated that 7.5 million Mexicans ages between 15 to 29 fall in this category. Just don’t feel comfortable with your situation, aim higher even in the worst moments.
PUT YOUR MAXIMUM EFFORT IN POSITIVITY AND WITH GOD YOU SHALL NOT WALK ALONE. IT IS ALWAYS TOO EARLY TO GIVE UP FOR WHEN WE CAN’T DREAM ANY LONGER, WE DIE.
SURELY, I AM TELLING YOU, EVERYTHING SHALL PASS!
